8 Therefore thou shalt deal H6213 kindly H2617 with thy servant; H5650 for thou hast brought H935 thy servant H5650 into a covenant H1285 of the LORD H3068 with thee: notwithstanding, if there be H3426 in me iniquity, H5771 slay H4191 me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring H935 me to thy father? H1
Then Jonathan H3083 and David H1732 made H3772 a covenant, H1285 because he loved H160 him as his own soul. H5315
And they two H8147 made H3772 a covenant H1285 before H6440 the LORD: H3068 and David H1732 abode H3427 in the wood, H2793 and Jonathan H3083 went H1980 to his house. H1004
And Absalom H53 answered H559 Joab, H3097 Behold, I sent H7971 unto thee, saying, H559 Come H935 hither, that I may send H7971 thee to the king, H4428 to say, H559 Wherefore am I come H935 from Geshur? H1650 it had been good H2896 for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see H7200 the king's H4428 face; H6440 and if there be H3426 any iniquity H5771 in me, let him kill H4191 me.
So Jonathan H3083 made H3772 a covenant with the house H1004 of David, H1732 saying, Let the LORD H3068 even require H1245 it at the hand H3027 of David's H1732 enemies. H341
And now if ye will H3426 deal H6213 kindly H2617 and truly H571 with my master, H113 tell H5046 me: and if not, tell H5046 me; that I may turn H6437 to the right hand, H3225 or H176 to the left. H8040
And the time H3117 drew nigh H7126 that Israel H3478 must die: H4191 and he called H7121 his son H1121 Joseph, H3130 and said H559 unto him, If now I have found H4672 grace H2580 in thy sight, H5869 put, H7760 I pray thee, thy hand H3027 under my thigh, H3409 and deal H6213 kindly H2617 and truly H571 with me; bury H6912 me not, I pray thee, in Egypt: H4714
And the men H582 answered H559 her, Our life H5315 for yours, H4191 if ye utter H5046 not this our business. H1697 And it shall be, when the LORD H3068 hath given H5414 us the land, H776 that we will deal H6213 kindly H2617 and truly H571 with thee.
And David H1732 went out H3318 to meet H6440 them, and answered H6030 and said H559 unto them, If ye be come H935 peaceably H7965 unto me to help H5826 me, mine heart H3824 shall be knit H3162 unto you: but if ye be come to betray H7411 me to mine enemies, H6862 seeing there is no H3808 wrong H2555 in mine hands, H3709 the God H430 of our fathers H1 look H7200 thereon, and rebuke H3198 it.
If I have rewarded H1580 evil H7451 unto him that was at peace H7999 with me; (yea, I have delivered H2502 him that without cause H7387 is mine enemy:) H6887 Let the enemy H341 persecute H7291 my soul, H5315 and take H5381 it; yea, let him tread down H7429 my life H2416 upon the earth, H776 and lay H7931 mine honour H3519 in the dust. H6083 Selah. H5542
Let not mercy H2617 and truth H571 forsake H5800 thee: bind H7194 them about thy neck; H1621 write H3789 them upon the table H3871 of thine heart: H3820
For G1063 if G1487 G3303 I be an offender, G91 or G2532 have committed G4238 any thing G5100 worthy G514 of death, G2288 I refuse G3868 not G3756 to die: G599 but G1161 if G1487 there be G2076 none G3762 of these things G3739 whereof these G3778 accuse G2723 me, G3450 no man G3762 may G1410 deliver G5483 me G3165 unto them. G846 I appeal unto G1941 Caesar. G2541

Commentary on 1 Samuel 20 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 20
David, having several times narrowly escaped Saul's fury, begins to consider at last whether it may not be necessary for him to retire into the country and to take up arms in his own defence. But he will not do so daring a thing without consulting his faithful friend Jonathan; how he did this, and what passed between them, we have an account in this chapter, where we have as surprising instances of supernatural love as we had in the chapter before of unnatural hatred.

Jonathan is here effectually convinced of that which he was so loth to believe, that his father had an implacable enmity to David, and would certainly be the death of him if it were in his power; and he had like to have paid very dearly himself for the conviction.
