9 There went up H5927 a smoke H6227 out of his nostrils, H639 and fire H784 out of his mouth H6310 devoured: H398 coals H1513 were kindled H1197 by it.
And I will make thee to pass H5674 with thine enemies H341 into a land H776 which thou knowest H3045 not: for a fire H784 is kindled H6919 in mine anger, H639 which shall burn H3344 upon you.
Wherefore thus saith H559 the LORD H3068 God H430 of hosts, H6635 Because ye speak H1696 this word, H1697 behold, I will make H5414 my words H1697 in thy mouth H6310 fire, H784 and this people H5971 wood, H6086 and it shall devour H398 them.
For Tophet H8613 is ordained H6186 of old; H865 yea, for the king H4428 it is prepared; H3559 he hath made it deep H6009 and large: H7337 the pile H4071 thereof is fire H784 and much H7235 wood; H6086 the breath H5397 of the LORD, H3068 like a stream H5158 of brimstone, H1614 doth kindle H1197 it.
Behold, the name H8034 of the LORD H3068 cometh H935 from far, H4801 burning H1197 with his anger, H639 and the burden H4858 thereof is heavy: H3514 his lips H8193 are full H4390 of indignation, H2195 and his tongue H3956 as a devouring H398 fire: H784
A fire H784 goeth H3212 before H6440 him, and burneth up H3857 his enemies H6862 round about. H5439 His lightnings H1300 enlightened H215 the world: H8398 the earth H776 saw, H7200 and trembled. H2342 The hills H2022 melted H4549 like wax H1749 at the presence H6440 of the LORD, H3068 at the presence H6440 of the Lord H113 of the whole earth. H776
And in the greatness H7230 of thine excellency H1347 thou hast overthrown H2040 them that rose up against H6965 thee: thou sentest forth H7971 thy wrath, H2740 which consumed H398 them as stubble. H7179 And with the blast H7307 of thy nostrils H639 the waters H4325 were gathered together, H6192 the floods H5140 stood upright H5324 as an heap, H5067 and the depths H8415 were congealed H7087 in the heart H3820 of the sea. H3220
And the channels H650 of the sea H3220 appeared, H7200 the foundations H4146 of the world H8398 were discovered, H1540 at the rebuking H1606 of the LORD, H3068 at the blast H5397 of the breath H7307 of his nostrils. H639
Through the brightness H5051 before him were coals H1513 of fire H784 kindled. H1197
And the sight H4758 of the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 was like devouring H398 fire H784 on the top H7218 of the mount H2022 in the eyes H5869 of the children H1121 of Israel. H3478

Commentary on 2 Samuel 22 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 22
This chapter is a psalm, a psalm of praise; we find it afterwards inserted among David's psalms (Ps. 18) with some little variation. We have it here as it was first composed for his own closet and his own harp; but there we have it as it was afterwards delivered to the chief musician for the service of the church, a second edition with some amendments; for, though it was calculated primarily for David's case, yet it might indifferently serve the devotion of others, in giving thanks for their deliverances; or it was intended that his people should thus join with him in his thanksgivings, because, being a public person, his deliverances were to be accounted public blessings and called for public acknowledgments. The inspired historian, having largely related David's deliverances in this and the foregoing book, and one particularly in the close of the foregoing chapter, thought fit to record this sacred poem as a memorial of all that had been before related. Some think that David penned this psalm when he was old, upon a general review of the mercies of his life and the many wonderful preservations God had blessed him with, from first to last. We should in our praises, look as far back as we can, and not suffer time to wear out the sense of God's favours. Others think that he penned it when he was young, upon occasion of some of his first deliverances, and kept it by him for his use afterwards, and that, upon every new deliverance, his practice was to sing this song. But the book of Psalms shows that he varied as there was occasion, and confined not himself to one form. Here is,
