17 Be not over much H7235 wicked, H7561 neither be thou foolish: H5530 why shouldest thou die H4191 before thy time? H6256
The fear H3374 of the LORD H3068 prolongeth H3254 days: H3117 but the years H8141 of the wicked H7563 shall be shortened. H7114
But thou, O God, H430 shalt bring them down H3381 into the pit H875 of destruction: H7845 bloody H1818 and deceitful H4820 men H582 shall not live out half H2673 their days; H3117 but I will trust H982 in thee.
And Er, H6147 Judah's H3063 firstborn, H1060 was wicked H7451 in the sight H5869 of the LORD; H3068 and the LORD H3068 slew H4191 him. And Judah H3063 said H559 unto Onan, H209 Go in H935 unto thy brother's H251 wife, H802 and marry H2992 her, and raise up H6965 seed H2233 to thy brother. H251 And Onan H209 knew H3045 that the seed H2233 should not be his; and it came to pass, when H518 he went in H935 unto his brother's H251 wife, H802 that he spilled H7843 it on the ground, H776 lest H1115 that he should give H5414 seed H2233 to his brother. H251 And the thing which H834 he did H6213 displeased H3415 H5869 the LORD: H3068 wherefore he slew H4191 him also.
And it came to pass about ten H6235 days H3117 after, that the LORD H3068 smote H5062 Nabal, H5037 that he died. H4191
And G1161 Ananias G367 hearing G191 these G5128 words G3056 fell down, G4098 and gave up the ghost: G1634 and G2532 great G3173 fear G5401 came G1096 on G1909 all G3956 them that heard G191 these things. G5023
Then G1161 fell she down G4098 straightway G3916 at G3844 his G846 feet, G4228 and G2532 yielded up the ghost: G1634 and G1161 the young men G3495 came in, G1525 and found G2147 her G846 dead, G3498 and, G2532 carrying her forth, G1627 buried G2290 her by G4314 her G846 husband. G435
Wherefore G1352 lay apart G659 all G3956 filthiness G4507 and G2532 superfluity G4050 of naughtiness, G2549 and receive G1209 with G1722 meekness G4240 the engrafted G1721 word, G3056 which G3588 is able G1410 to save G4982 your G5216 souls. G5590
Why trimmest H3190 thou thy way H1870 to seek H1245 love? H160 therefore hast thou also taught H3925 the wicked ones H7451 thy ways. H1870 Also in thy skirts H3671 is found H4672 the blood H1818 of the souls H5315 of the poor H34 innocents: H5355 I have not found H4672 it by secret search, H4290 but upon all these.
Then he said H559 unto me, Hast thou seen H7200 this, O son H1121 of man? H120 Is it a light thing H7043 to the house H1004 of Judah H3063 that they commit H6213 the abominations H8441 which they commit H6213 here? for they have filled H4390 the land H776 with violence, H2555 and have returned H7725 to provoke me to anger: H3707 and, lo, they put H7971 the branch H2156 to their nose. Commentary on Ecclesiastes 7 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 7
Solomon had given many proofs and instances of the vanity of this world and the things of it; now, in this chapter,
Ecc 7:1-6
In these verses Solomon lays down some great truths which seem paradoxes to the unthinking part, that is, the far greatest part, of mankind.
Ecc 7:7-10
Solomon had often complained before of the oppressions which he saw under the sun, which gave occasion for many melancholy speculations and were a great discouragement to virtue and piety. Now here,
Ecc 7:11-22
Solomon, in these verses, recommends wisdom to us as the best antidote against those distempers of mind which we are liable to, by reason of the vanity and vexation of spirit that there are in the things of this world. Here are some of the praises and the precepts of wisdom.
Ecc 7:23-29
Solomon had hitherto been proving the vanity of the world and its utter insufficiency to make men happy; now here he comes to show the vileness of sin, and its certain tendency to make men miserable; and this, as the former, he proves from his own experience, and it was a dear-bought experience. He is here, more than any where in all this book, putting on the habit of a penitent. He reviews what he had been discoursing of already, and tells us that what he had said was what he knew and was well assured of, and what he resolved to stand by: All this have I proved by wisdom, v. 23. Now here,
