23 And when inquisition H1245 was made of the matter, H1697 it was found out; H4672 therefore they were both H8147 hanged H8518 on a tree: H6086 and it was written H3789 in the book H5612 of the chronicles H1697 H3117 before H6440 the king. H4428
Yet within three H7969 days H3117 shall Pharaoh H6547 lift up H5375 thy head H7218 from off thee, and shall hang H8518 thee on a tree; H6086 and the birds H5775 shall eat H398 thy flesh H1320 from off thee.
But he hanged H8518 the chief H8269 baker: H644 as Joseph H3130 had interpreted H6622 to them.
And all the acts H4639 of his power H8633 and of his might, H1369 and the declaration H6575 of the greatness H1420 of Mordecai, H4782 whereunto the king H4428 advanced H1431 him, are they not written H3789 in the book H5612 of the chronicles H1697 H3117 of the kings H4428 of Media H4074 and Persia? H6539
And if a man H376 have committed a sin H2399 worthy of H4941 death, H4194 and he be to be put to death, H4191 and thou hang H8518 him on a tree: H6086 His body H5038 shall not remain all night H3885 upon the tree, H6086 but thou shalt in any wise H6912 bury H6912 him that day; H3117 (for he that is hanged H8518 is accursed H7045 of God;) H430 that thy land H127 be not defiled, H2930 which the LORD H3068 thy God H430 giveth H5414 thee for an inheritance. H5159
And the king H4428 of Ai H5857 he hanged H8518 on a tree H6086 until eventide: H6256 H6153 and as soon as the sun H8121 was down, H935 Joshua H3091 commanded H6680 that they should take H3381 his carcase H5038 down H3381 from the tree, H6086 and cast H7993 it at the entering H6607 of the gate H8179 of the city, H5892 and raise H6965 thereon a great H1419 heap H1530 of stones, H68 that remaineth unto this day. H3117

Commentary on Esther 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
Two things are recorded in this chapter, which were working towards the deliverance of the Jews from Haman's conspiracy:-
Est 2:1-20
How God put down one that was high and mighty from her seat we read in the chapter before, and are now to be told how he exalted one of low degree, as the virgin Mary observes in her song (Lu. 1:52) and Hannah before her, 1 Sa. 2:4-8. Vashti being humbled for her height, Esther is advanced for her humility. Observe,
Est 2:21-23
This good service which Mordecai did to the government, in discovering a plot against the life of the king, is here recorded, because the mention of it will again occur to his advantage. No step is yet taken towards Haman's design of the Jews' destruction, but several steps are taken towards God's design of their deliverance, and this for one. God now gives Mordecai an opportunity of doing the king a good turn, that he might have the fairer opportunity afterwards of doing the Jews a good turn.
