24 And it came to pass by the way H1870 in the inn, H4411 that the LORD H3068 met H6298 him, and sought H1245 to kill H4191 him.
And the uncircumcised H6189 man child H2145 whose H834 flesh H1320 of his foreskin H6190 is not circumcised, H4135 that soul H5315 shall be cut off H3772 from his people; H5971 he hath broken H6565 my covenant. H1285
Then Moses H4872 said H559 unto Aaron, H175 This is it that the LORD H3068 spake, H1696 saying, H559 I will be sanctified H6942 in them that come nigh H7138 me, and before H6440 all the people H5971 I will be glorified. H3513 And Aaron H175 held his peace. H1826
And David H1732 lifted up H5375 his eyes, H5869 and saw H7200 the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 stand H5975 between the earth H776 and the heaven, H8064 having a drawn H8025 sword H2719 in his hand H3027 stretched out H5186 over Jerusalem. H3389 Then David H1732 and the elders H2205 of Israel, who were clothed H3680 in sackcloth, H8242 fell H5307 upon their faces. H6440
And as one H259 of them opened H6605 his sack H8242 to give H5414 his ass H2543 provender H4554 in the inn, H4411 he espied H7200 his money; H3701 for, behold, it was in his sack's H572 mouth. H6310
And they shall hearken H8085 to thy voice: H6963 and thou shalt come, H935 thou and the elders H2205 of Israel, H3478 unto the king H4428 of Egypt, H4714 and ye shall say H559 unto him, The LORD H3068 God H430 of the Hebrews H5680 hath met H7136 with us: and now let us go, H3212 we beseech thee, three H7969 days' H3117 journey H1870 into the wilderness, H4057 that we may sacrifice H2076 to the LORD H3068 our God. H430
And God's H430 anger H639 was kindled H2734 because he went: H1980 and the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 stood H3320 in the way H1870 for an adversary H7854 against him. Now he was riding H7392 upon his ass, H860 and his two H8147 servants H5288 were with him. And the ass H860 saw H7200 the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 standing H5324 in the way, H1870 and his sword H2719 drawn H8025 in his hand: H3027 and the ass H860 turned aside H5186 out of the way, H1870 and went H3212 into the field: H7704 and Balaam H1109 smote H5221 the ass, H860 to turn H5186 her into the way. Commentary on Exodus 4 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 4
This chapter,
Exd 4:1-9
It was a very great honour that Moses was called to when God commissioned him to bring Israel out of Egypt; yet he is with difficulty persuaded to accept the commission, and does it at last with great reluctance, which we should rather impute to a humble diffidence of himself and his own sufficiency than to any unbelieving distrust of God and his word and power. Note, Those whom God designs for preferment he clothes with humility; the most fit for service are the least forward.
Exd 4:10-17
Moses still continues backward to the service for which God had designed him, even to a fault; for now we can no longer impute it to his humility and modesty, but must own that here was too much of cowardice, slothfulness, and unbelief in it. Observe here,
