7 All that found H4672 them have devoured H398 them: and their adversaries H6862 said, H559 We offend H816 not, because they have sinned H2398 against the LORD, H3068 the habitation H5116 of justice, H6664 even the LORD, H3068 the hope H4723 of their fathers. H1
O the hope H4723 of Israel, H3478 the saviour H3467 thereof in time H6256 of trouble, H6869 why shouldest thou be as a stranger H1616 in the land, H776 and as a wayfaring man H732 that turneth aside H5186 to tarry for a night? H3885
And the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 took H3947 Jeremiah, H3414 and said H559 unto him, The LORD H3068 thy God H430 hath pronounced H1696 this evil H7451 upon this place. H4725 Now the LORD H3068 hath brought H935 it, and done H6213 according as he hath said: H1696 because ye have sinned H2398 against the LORD, H3068 and have not obeyed H8085 his voice, H6963 therefore this thing H1697 is come upon you.
Thus saith H559 the LORD H3068 of hosts, H6635 the God H430 of Israel; H3478 As yet they shall use H559 this speech H1697 in the land H776 of Judah H3063 and in the cities H5892 thereof, when I shall bring again H7725 their captivity; H7622 The LORD H3068 bless H1288 thee, O habitation H5116 of justice, H6664 and mountain H2022 of holiness. H6944
Israel H3478 was holiness H6944 unto the LORD, H3068 and the firstfruits H7225 of his increase: H8393 all that devour H398 him shall offend; H816 evil H7451 shall come H935 upon them, saith H5002 the LORD. H3068
Whose possessors H7069 slay H2026 them, and hold themselves not guilty: H816 and they that sell H4376 them say, H559 Blessed H1288 be the LORD; H3068 for I am rich: H6238 and their own shepherds H7462 pity H2550 them not.
Paul, G3972 an apostle G652 of Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 by G2596 the commandment G2003 of God G2316 our G2257 Saviour, G4990 and G2532 Lord G2962 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547 which G3588 is our G2257 hope; G1680
And I am very H1419 sore H7110 displeased H7107 with the heathen H1471 that are at ease: H7600 for I was but a little H4592 displeased, H7107 and they helped H5826 forward the affliction. H7451
O Lord, H136 according to all thy righteousness, H6666 I beseech thee, let thine anger H639 and thy fury H2534 be turned away H7725 from thy city H5892 Jerusalem, H3389 thy holy H6944 mountain: H2022 because for our sins, H2399 and for the iniquities H5771 of our fathers, H1 Jerusalem H3389 and thy people H5971 are become a reproach H2781 to all that are about H5439 us.
Neither have we hearkened H8085 unto thy servants H5650 the prophets, H5030 which spake H1696 in thy name H8034 to our kings, H4428 our princes, H8269 and our fathers, H1 and to all the people H5971 of the land. H776
Our fathers H1 trusted H982 in thee: they trusted, H982 and thou didst deliver H6403 them. They cried H2199 unto thee, and were delivered: H4422 they trusted H982 in thee, and were not confounded. H954
I have forsaken H5800 mine house, H1004 I have left H5203 mine heritage; H5159 I have given H5414 the dearly beloved H3033 of my soul H5315 into the hand H3709 of her enemies. H341 Mine heritage H5159 is unto me as a lion H738 in the forest; H3293 it crieth out H5414 H6963 against me: therefore have I hated H8130 it. Mine heritage H5159 is unto me as a speckled H6641 bird, H5861 the birds H5861 round about H5439 are against her; come H3212 ye, assemble H622 all the beasts H2416 of the field, H7704 come H857 to devour. H402 Many H7227 pastors H7462 have destroyed H7843 my vineyard, H3754 they have trodden H947 my portion H2513 under foot, H947 they have made H5414 my pleasant H2532 portion H2513 a desolate H8077 wilderness. H4057 They have made H7760 it desolate, H8076 and being desolate H8077 it mourneth H56 unto me; the whole land H776 is made desolate, H8074 because no man H376 layeth H7760 it to heart. H3820
The Syrians H758 before, H6924 and the Philistines H6430 behind; H268 and they shall devour H398 Israel H3478 with open mouth. H6310 For all this his anger H639 is not turned away, H7725 but his hand H3027 is stretched out still. H5186

Commentary on Jeremiah 50 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 50
In this chapter, and that which follows, we have the judgment of Babylon, which is put last of Jeremiah's prophecies against the Gentiles because it was last accomplished; and when the cup of God's fury went round (ch. 25:17) the king of Sheshach, Babylon, drank last. Babylon was employed as the rod in God's hand for the chastising of all the other nations, and now at length that rod shall be thrown into the fire. The destruction of Babylon by Cyrus was foretold, long before it came to its height, by Isaiah, and now again, when it has come to its height, by Jeremiah; for, though at this time he saw that kingdom flourishing "like a green bay-tree,' yet at the same time he foresaw it withered and cut down. And as Isaiah's prophecies of the destruction of Babylon and the deliverance of Israel out of it seem designed to typify the evangelical triumphs of all believers over the powers of darkness, and the great salvation wrought out by our Lord Jesus Christ, so Jeremiah's prophecies of the same events seem designed to point at the apocalyptic triumphs of the gospel church in the latter days over the New-Testament Babylon, many passages in the Revelation being borrowed hence. The kingdom of Babylon being much larger and stronger than any of the kingdoms here prophesied against, its fall was the more considerable in itself; and, it having been more oppressive to the people of God than any of the other, the prophet is very copious upon this subject, for the comfort of the captives; and what was foretold in general often before (ch. 25:12 and 27:7) is here more particularly described, and with a great deal of prophetic heat as well as light. The terrible judgments God had in store for Babylon, and the glorious blessings he had in store for his people that were captives there, are intermixed and counterchanged in the prophecy of this chapter; for Babylon was destroyed to make way for the turning again of the captivity of God's people. Here is,
And these being set the one against the other, it is easy to say which one would choose to take one's lot with, the persecuting Babylonians, who, though now in pomp, are reserved for so great a ruin, or the persecuted Israelites, who, though now in thraldom, are reserved for so great a glory.
