4 If thou seekest H1245 her as silver, H3701 and searchest H2664 for her as for hid treasures; H4301
Again, G3825 the kingdom G932 of heaven G3772 is G2076 like G3664 unto treasure G2344 hid G2928 in G1722 a field; G68 the which G3739 when a man G444 hath found, G2147 he hideth, G2928 and G2532 for G575 joy G5479 thereof G846 goeth G5217 and G2532 selleth G4453 all G3956 that G3745 he hath, G2192 and G2532 buyeth G59 that G1565 field. G68
Which long H2442 for death, H4194 but it cometh not; and dig H2658 for it more than for hid treasures; H4301
But where H370 shall wisdom H2451 be found? H4672 and where is the place H4725 of understanding? H998 Man H582 knoweth H3045 not the price H6187 thereof; neither is it found H4672 in the land H776 of the living. H2416 The depth H8415 saith, H559 It is not in me: and the sea H3220 saith, H559 It is not with me. It cannot be gotten H5414 for gold, H5458 neither shall silver H3701 be weighed H8254 for the price H4242 thereof. It cannot be valued H5541 with the gold H3800 of Ophir, H211 with the precious H3368 onyx, H7718 or the sapphire. H5601 The gold H2091 and the crystal H2137 cannot equal H6186 it: and the exchange H8545 of it shall not be for jewels H3627 of fine gold. H6337 No mention H2142 shall be made of coral, H7215 or of pearls: H1378 for the price H4901 of wisdom H2451 is above rubies. H6443 The topaz H6357 of Ethiopia H3568 shall not equal H6186 it, neither shall it be valued H5541 with pure H2889 gold. H3800 Whence H370 then cometh H935 wisdom? H2451 and where is the place H4725 of understanding? H998
More to be desired H2530 are they than gold, H2091 yea, than much H7227 fine gold: H6337 sweeter H4966 also than honey H1706 and the honeycomb. H5317 H6688
Therefore I love H157 thy commandments H4687 above gold; H2091 yea, above fine gold. H6337
How much better H2896 is it to get H7069 wisdom H2451 than gold! H2742 and to get H7069 understanding H998 rather to be chosen H977 than silver! H3701
Buy H7069 the truth, H571 and sell H4376 it not; also wisdom, H2451 and instruction, H4148 and understanding. H998
There is H3426 one H259 alone, and there is not a second; H8145 yea, he hath neither child H1121 nor brother: H251 yet is there no end H7093 of all his labour; H5999 neither is his eye H5869 satisfied H7646 with riches; H6239 neither saith he, For whom do I labour, H6001 and bereave H2637 my soul H5315 of good? H2896 This is also vanity, H1892 yea, it is a sore H7451 travail. H6045
Lay G2343 not G3361 up G2343 for yourselves G5213 treasures G2344 upon G1909 earth, G1093 where G3699 moth G4597 and G2532 rust G1035 doth corrupt, G853 and G2532 where G3699 thieves G2812 break through G1358 and G2532 steal: G2813 But G1161 lay up G2343 for yourselves G5213 treasures G2344 in G1722 heaven, G3772 where G3699 neither G3777 moth G4597 nor G3777 rust G1035 doth corrupt, G853 and G2532 where G3699 thieves G2812 do G1358 not G3756 break through G1358 nor G3761 steal: G2813 For G1063 where G3699 your G5216 treasure G2344 is, G2076 there G1563 will G2071 your G5216 heart G2588 be G2071 also. G2532
Jesus G2424 said G5346 unto him, G846 If G1487 thou wilt G2309 be G1511 perfect, G5046 go G5217 and sell G4453 that thou G4675 hast, G5224 and G2532 give G1325 to the poor, G4434 and G2532 thou shalt have G2192 treasure G2344 in G1722 heaven: G3772 and G2532 come G1204 and follow G190 me. G3427 But G1161 when the young man G3495 heard G191 that saying, G3056 he went away G565 sorrowful: G3076 for G1063 he had G2192 G2258 great G4183 possessions. G2933
And G2532 every G3956 one G3739 that hath forsaken G863 houses, G3614 or G2228 brethren, G80 or G2228 sisters, G79 or G2228 father, G3962 or G2228 mother, G3384 or G2228 wife, G1135 or G2228 children, G5043 or G2228 lands, G68 for my G3450 name's G3686 sake, G1752 shall receive G2983 an hundredfold, G1542 and G2532 shall inherit G2816 everlasting G166 life. Commentary on Proverbs 2 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 2
Solomon, having foretold the destruction of those who are obstinate in their impiety, in this chapter applies himself to those who are willing to be taught; and,
So that in this chapter we are taught both how to get wisdom and how to use it when we have it, that we may neither seek it, nor receive it in vain.
Pro 2:1-9
Job had asked, long before this, Where shall wisdom be found? Whence cometh wisdom? (Job 28:12, 20) and he had given this general answer (v. 23), God knoweth the place of it; but Solomon here goes further, and tells us both where we may find it and how we may get it. We are here told,
